about little dragon’s
After years of experience in Education, the vision for a homely Early Years Nursery began to become reality once the building had been found. No.4, New Street in the Georgian town of Stourport on Severn has the potential to realise a vision that had been growing over many years.
In 2019, the lease was signed, and the renovation of the nursery began.
The Nursery now provides three interconnecting rooms for children under two that are open and spacious. The perfect learning space to inspire curiosity and child lead learning.
The two-tiered play area has enabled the team’s creativity to flourish as the space has been turned into pumpkin patches, pirate ships, hosted garden picnics and even family-sized tents to support continuous provision (follow the link to find out more about Continuous provision for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Welcoming families Since September 2020
After passing the OFSTED registration in July 2020, we were proud to be supporting local families after a challenging period of time for parents. We began to welcome children from September 2020 and have been growing ever since.
We were proud to be able to offer a space for children, which for many were their first steps outside their family circle. We were the first people to make connections with these children and the team worked hard on building social skills, ensuring we worked safely while managing the use of masks to ensure the children could see the smiles on our faces and make secure attachments with each and every one of us.
This shows the tone and ethos of our team. Children first, always.
The children we care for are joining us from the most challenging time for a generation and we recognise and respond to this situation by valuing relationships and communication skills as much as safeguarding the children with our rigorous approach to safety in all aspects of our nursery.

Buidling for the future with a clear vision
Our first OFSTED experience in November 2022 as a team, gave us a fantastic learning experience and we were proud of the comments we received. We felt that the guidance given to continue improving was fair and supportive, as well as being proud of our ‘Good’ ratings for Leadership and Management and Behaviour and Attitudes. They recognised our vision for our own future and the quality care that we give to our children.
“Staff consider how to extend children’s interests in play and introduce enhancements to support learning”

We have welcomed special visitors into the nursery including the local post person, police officer and, of course, Father Christmas.
“Parents comment that they are very happy with the homely, nurturing nursery. They appreciate how staff access the local community with the children, who are taken on visits to the local park, library and join in with community activities”.

How are staff selected to join the Little Dragon’s nursery team?
At Little Dragon’s Nursery, we are vigilant in our recruitment procedures, to ensure all people working with children are safe and suitable to do so. We follow our safer recruitment policy & procedure each and every time we recruit a new member to join our team. This entails an enhanced DBS, thorough reference, employment and ID checks.
our team
You may not see the whole team on our website page due to our commitment to working with students. Rest assured our students and staff go through the same rigorous safeguarding processes.
You will be able to get to know our creative and dedicated team of childcare practitioners through communication at drop offs as we always give each family a thorough handover about their child’s day at nursery.
We are keen to ensure we provide a setting that can nurture the next generation of Early Years Practitioners, benefiting from our teamwork and dedication to putting the children first.
“Staff know about child development and confidently highlight gaps in learning. As a result of ongoing assessment, staff who work with older children focus on personal, social and emotional development, as well as communication and language development.”

How do we keep our team up to date with their training at Nursery?
At Little Dragon’s we hold regular age group and whole group meetings to ensure we are working to our individualised needs as well as forming a consistent approach across the whole nursery.
We value opinions, input and ideas from every person on our team; each person can develop or enhance an idea. We recognise that a flower needs many ingredients to blossom, and we respond to the strengths and areas to develop within our team, just as we do with the children. Children learn through modelling, to transfer through to our staff team from trainee to trainer.
Our purposeful Nursery Learning Environment
At Little Dragon’s we embrace the fun in learning! Each day with the children, we provide opportunities for exploration, investigation, freedom to express, to create, and time for comfort with plenty of celebration.
We dance, we sing, we laugh, and we play! For each of these magical experiences the children are forming a positive and active love of learning through the design of our purposeful learning environment and the learning experiences we create.
Using the Key Worker System for Safeguarding and Positive Relationships
Each child is allocated a Key Worker. The key worker helps to ensure that every child’s learning and care is tailored to meet their individual needs. This is achieved through information gathered about their achievements, interests and learning styles to plan for each child’s learning and development.
If a child’s progress in any of the prime areas gives cause for concern, the key worker will discuss this with the setting Manager and the child’s family. The key worker has a responsibility towards their key children to report any concern about their development, welfare or child protection matter to the Manager and follow the procedures in this respect.
At Little Dragon’s we love to celebrate all our children’s development and collectively have a deep understanding and strong relationships with each of our children. We all give a lot of time to understanding our children and take our responsibility for safeguarding as a whole staff approach. Keeping the children safe as well as creating a fun and enriching curriculum in our homely and nurturing nursery environment.
